BOSTON — The U.S. Marine Corps says a Marine on leave allegedly was involved in the death of a Boston college student who suffered fatal injuries in a scuffle after leaving a party.
The military did not identify the Marine, saying only in a statement Tuesday that the Marine allegedly played a role in the death of Emerson College sophomore Daniel Hollis. It did not elaborate, and Boston police said no arrests had been made.
Police said Monday they were investigating the 20-year-old’s death as a homicide. Hollis was a marketing communications major and a goalie on the school’s lacrosse team.
Authorities say he died of a severe head injury after the Sept. 28 altercation off campus in Boston’s Allston neighborhood.
The Marine Corps said its command is treating the case “with great care and solemnity.”
