Marine Lt. Gen. Joseph L. Osterman has been nominated to command I Marine Expeditionary Force, according to a Defense Department posting.
Osterman served as the commander of Marine Special Operations Command for two years before relinquishing command to Maj. Gen. Carl E. Mundy III in August 2016.
During his command of the elite Marine unit, Osterman reorganized the three raider battalions and expanded intelligence capabilities to the Marine special operations team level.
The former Raider commander currently is serving as the deputy commander of U.S. Special Operations Command, headquartered in Tampa, Florida.
