A chaplain with Marine Forces Reserve was relieved from his post.
Marine officials provided few details regarding the circumstances of the firing first reported by Task and Purpose.
Navy Capt. Loften Thornton, the force Chaplain, was fired by Lt. Gen. Rex McMillian, the commander of Marine Forces Reserve, “due to a loss of trust and confidence,” Maj. Andrew Aranda, a spokesperson for Marine Forces Reserve, told Marine Corps Times in an emailed statement Wednesday morning.
No further details were available due to an ongoing investigation into the matter.
“Marine Forces Reserve takes all allegations against any of our Marines or Sailors seriously,” Aranda said.
