LAGUNA HILLS, Calif. — An active-duty Marine has been arrested in Southern California in connection with the fatal shooting of his estranged wife.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department said Jerel Boykins was arrested Friday on suspicion of murder after deputies found the 23-year-old victim’s body in an apartment in Laguna Hills, north of Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base.
Authorities say the woman suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene. Sheriff’s officials have not released her name.
Boykins, 26, was booked into the Orange County Jail, and is being held in lieu of $1 million bail. He is expected to appear in court on Monday.
Boykins could not be reached for comment, and jail records did not list an attorney for him.
