Our readers can’t get enough of the “BRRRRT.”
Out of the 1,000 voters who picked a favorite Air Force plane in our recent poll, more than 400 chose the A-10 Thunderbolt II.
The close-air support jet, with its Gatling gun and intimidating nose art, beat out 11 other aircraft by a landslide.
With 41 percent of voters choosing the Warthog, the F-22 Raptor and F-15 Eagle came in tied at second place — with 9 percent of votes each.
Even with all the love from airmen, however, the Air Force might have to ground more than 100 A-10s as early as fiscal 2018, according to Defense News, a sister publication of Air Force Times.
The aircraft’s wings are aging out faster than replacements can be provided, and unless Congress approves funds for new wings on 109 of the 281 A-10s, the service will be forced to retire three squadrons.
Is the A-10 your favorite, too? Or do you want to show another plane some love? Take our poll below.
