Another North Carolina-based commander has been fired without any details released publicly about what led to his dismissal.
Lt. Col. Shawn Grzybowski was relieved of his duties Thursday as commander of Combat Logistics Battalion 8 at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, a brief II Marine Expeditionary Force news release said.
Brig. Gen. David Maxwell, commander of 2nd Marine Logistics Group, fired Grzybowski “due to loss of trust and confidence in his ability to lead,” the news release said. The release did not specify why Maxwell decided to relieve Grzybowski of command.
Grzybowski is currently under investigation, said II MEF spokesman Lt. Col. Michael Armistead, who declined to say why Grzybowski was being investigated or elaborate on why Maxwell fired him.
Three other commanders from North Carolina bases have been relieved this year: Lt. Col. Taylor White was fired on July 20 as commander of Marine Wing Support Squadron 274 at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point; Lt. Col. Jennifer Grieves was relieved of duty on June 7 as commander of Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 464 at Marine Corps Air Station New River; and Col. Daniel P. O’Hora was fired on June 6 as commander of the Marine Corps Engineer School at Camp Lejeune.
Marine officials have been tight-lipped about each dismissal.
