Two Marine generals have been put up for new assignments and promotion, Defense Secretary Ash Carter announced Fridaytoday.
Maj. Gen. Rex McMillian was nominated for promotion to a third star, and for assignment as commander of Marine Forces Reserve, according to the announcement.
Lt. Gen. Robert Ruark was tapped for re-appointment to the rank of lieutenant general and to a new post as the military deputy to the under secretary of defense for Personnel and Readiness.
McMillian now serves as special assistant to ot the commander of North American Aerospace Defense Command out of Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado. If confirmed, he'll replace Lt. Gen. Richard Mills, who has commanded MARFORRES since August 2013. McMillian also previously the 4th Marine Aircraft Wing, a Reserve unit, and the director of Reserve Affairs out of Headquarters Marine Corps. A next assignment for Mills has not been announced.
Ruark currently serves as the director of logistics, J-4 at the Joint Staff in Washington, D.C. He would replace Army Lt. Gen. Michael Linnington if his nomination is confirmed. Ruark has previously commanded 1st Marine Logistics Group, out of Camp Pendleton, California, and served as director of Logistics and Facilities for Headquarters Marine Corps.
