A Marine officer former commander facing a general court-martial over allegations of the Marine Corps' Wounded Warrior Regiment who is accused of sexual assault, has been sent to a county jail for violating the terms of his pretrial agreement pending his trial.

Col. T. Shane "Rhino" Tomko, the former commander of the Marine Corps' Wounded Warrior Regiment, was sent to the Rappahannock Regional Jail in Stafford, Virginia, on May 6 for violating the terms of his pretrial restriction, said Rex Runyon, a Marine Corps spokesman for Marine Corps Installations Command. Tomko is in the process of being transferred to the U.S. Navy brig in at Chesapeake, Virginia, he added Runyon said.

"I cannot discuss exactly how the restriction was violated since those matters are currently being evaluated," Runyon told Marine Corps Times on Thursday. "His arraignment is yet to be scheduled."

Tomko faces charges of abusive sexual contact, fraternization, conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentleman, wrongful possession of anabolic steroids, obstructing justice, conspiracy to obstruct justice and violations of lawful orders, according to the charge sheet against him.

Military.com first reported on Thursday that he had been jailed.The Marine Corps has not released specific information about what Tomko is accused of doing.

"It is inappropriate to comment further on the above charges at this time," Runyon said.

Brig. General Thomas Weidley, commander of Installations Command, is the convening authority for this case.

Tomko was relieved of command of the Wounded Warrior Regiment on Feb. 12, 2015.  Officials with Afterward, the Naval Criminal Investigative Service then launched an investigated into allegations of Tomko's for misconduct. Charges were preferred against him on Feb. 11 and he was referred to a general court-martial on April 22.

Eight months after being fired as commander of the Wounded Warrior Regiment, Tomko was photographed by the Associated Press speaking to first lady Michelle Obama as she visited Fort Belvoir, Virginia, along with Jill Biden and Britain's Prince Harry.
