A North Carolina-based Marine was admitted and treated at Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune on the Fourth of July following a possible encounter with a shark at a nearby beach took on a shark on July 4th has been released from Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune.
An The unnamed 32-year-old Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune was admitted to the naval hospital at 10:41 p.m. Saturday with lacerations to his right hand and forearm following the altercation in waters near Surf City, North Carolina, located approximately 22 miles southwest of the base.
A friend drove the Marine after the fight to the hospital, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries "due to a possible shark bite," according to a Marine Corps news release medical personnel.
He was released about five hours later t 3:29 a.m. Sunday.
It This is the eighth shark-related incident this summer on the North Carolina coast.

The Marine Corps has not announced any closures of Onslow Beach, Camp Lejeune's oceanfront family recreation area, in the wake of the possible attack.
