A Marine is under investigation in an alleged hit-and-run incident accidentin Okinawa that reportedly left a local man injured.
2nd Lt. Courtney Caimona, a spokeswoman for III Marine Expeditionary Force and Marine Corps Installations Pacific, said a the Marine is cooperating with the Marine Corps Provost Marshal's Office in an investigation into the incident, which happened off base in the evening Dec. 4an alleged hit-and-run off-base.
Caimona said the Corps is working with local authorities as they investigate the incident. Caimona, citing Corps policy, said that personal information or details of the alleged collision will not be released while the investigation is ongoing.
The Japan Times, an English-language newspaper, reported that a 67-year-old man was found collapsed on the road in Okinawa with serious head injuries. He was taken to a hospital and remained unconscious Dec. 7. An overturned minibike was found nearby, the newspaper reported.
