The commander of a Marine support squadron in North Carolina has been fired, according to II Marine Expeditionary Force.

Lt. Col. Taylor White was relieved of his duties Thursday as commander of Marine Wing Support Squadron 274 at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, a II MEF news release said.

Maj. Gen. Matthew Glavy, commander of the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, relieved White “due to a loss of trust and confidence in his ability to continue to lead,” the news release says. A 2nd MAW spokesman had no further information on Thursday about exactly why White was fired.

White assumed command of the unit on July 29, 2016, after serving as commanding officer of the Combat Engineer Instruction Company at the Marine Corps Engineer School, according to a Marine Corps story.

“I can’t imagine being a part of a better unit,” White said in the story. “I will do my best every day to maintain this squadron.”

Glavy has fired two commanders in the aviation community in as many months. Lt. Col. Jennifer Grieves was relieved of duty as commander of Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 464 for not properly reporting an off-duty incident, which is being investigated by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.

Grieves was arrested on Dec. 16 and charged with simple assault in connection with a domestic incident, police said.
