The four Marines killed Monday after two helicopters collided in midair over Afghanistan’s Helmand province were assigned to units based at Camp Pendleton, Calif., according to the Pentagon.

They are:

• Cpl. Gregory M.W. Fleury, 23, of Anchorage, Alaska.

• Capt. Eric A. Jones, 29, of Westchester, N.Y.

• Capt. David S. Mitchell, 30, of Loveland, Ohio.

• Capt. Kyle R. Van De Giesen, 29, of North Attleboro, Mass.

Fleury, Jones and Van De Giesen were assigned to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 169. Mitchell was assigned to HMLA-367.

Two other Marines were injured in the accident involving an AH-1W Super Cobra and UH-1N Huey, Marine officials said. They have not been identified.

An Army Chinook also crashed Monday in western Afghanistan, killing 10 Americans — seven troops and three civilians working for the government — and injuring 12 others.
