Senior enlisted selection boards to meet soon
Posted : Thursday Oct 8, 2009 15:08:16 EDT
The selection board deciding who will be promoted into the Marine Corps’ senior enlisted ranks will convene Oct. 13, kicking off the 2010 enlisted selection board process.
The board will meet at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Va., and review packages for promotion submitted by Marines vying for promotion to sergeant major, master gunnery sergeant, first sergeant and master sergeant. A colonel will oversee it and sever as one of 21 voting members, who decide by private vote which Marines make the cut.
Last year, the 2009 board selected 53 of 171 eligible first sergeants for promotion to sergeant major and 216 of 801 eligible master sergeants for promotion to master gunnery sergeant. It also selected 132 of 880 eligible gunnery sergeants for promotion to first sergeant and 737 of 2,194 eligible gunnery sergeants for promotion to master sergeant. It was headed by Col. Philippe Rogers and comprised three lieutenant colonels, five majors, five sergeants major and seven master gunnery sergeants.
The Corps’ other 2010 enlisted promotion boards will meet after Jan. 1. The reserve staff noncommissioned officer board is scheduled to meet Jan. 13, the gunnery sergeant board will convene April 13 and the staff sergeant board will meet July 13, Marine officials said.
