US soldier dies in Baghdad

BAGHDAD — The U.S. military says an American soldier has died of wounds suffered in a small-arms fire attack in Baghdad.
A military statement says Wednesday’s gunfire attack happened while the soldier was patrolling on foot in the northern part of the city.
Today’s statement says the soldier later died at a military hospital. No further details were released.
The death brings to 21 the number of U.S. soldiers who have died in Iraq this month. That’s more than the 13 American soldiers who died in July but still well below the monthly tolls of a year ago.
