Family offers reward in 1972 Marine death
Posted : Thursday Aug 21, 2008 6:24:39 EDT
JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — More than three decades after Sgt. William Miller was killed in Jacksonville, his family has offered a $5,000 reward for information that leads to his arrest.
The Daily News of Jacksonville reports that the Camp Lejeune Marine was shot in the right temple and in the back on Sept. 16, 1972. He had just returned from a tour of duty on Okinawa.
Capt. Rick Sutherland of the Onslow County Sheriff’s Department said Miller was shot with a military-style assault rifle.
Miller’s sister, Sharron Aguilar, said she hoped the reward would help police find her brother’s assailant.
The Naval Criminal Investigative Case remains open and detectives with the sheriff’s department said they follow up leads when they arise.
Onslow Crime Stoppers also is offering a $2,500 reward.
