CORPS’ FACEBOOK PAGE

What a dumb gimmick. The Marine Corps opens an official USMC Facebook page. Then, they make Facebook off limits to all Marines.

Sounds to me like the Marine Corps Recruiting Command is pulling a bait and switch on the younger generation. The Corps bans technology that has finally given service members the ability to stay in touch with their loved ones, but uses the same technology to recruit. Just sad.

LIVING MOH RECIPIENT POSSIBLE

On the one hand, I’m glad the Medal of Honor award process is getting scrutinized. On the other, I’m worried they’ll cheapen the medal just because they’re looking for people to give it to. It’s an award that must have the strictest of standards. No compromise can be accepted.

MORE TROOPS TO AFGHANISTAN

Dear Mr. President: Please consider Gen. McChrystal’s request for more troops. This is the original war on terror. Afghanistan is where in caves, on dark desert nights, evil men planned the 9/11 attacks. Let’s send more troops and fight them there, so we can preserve our freedom.

If you are going to send more troops to Afghanistan, agree to support them to the fullest. If this is a war, fight it as such and not as if we are trying to win the hearts of the world. Full support should be a non-negotiable requirement when we put our service members in harm’s way.

RETIRED MILITARY WOMEN

When I went to join the American Legion, the Auxiliary tried to tell me I couldn’t go upstairs where the men were meeting. I said, “I served with the men, I stand with them,” and then took my butt up those stairs.

MANDATORY CPL’S COURSE

There was a ton of groaning and whining among gunnery sergeants when the advanced course became mandatory. Expect a ton with this change, too. The logistics of it will indeed be a pain, but there are plenty of units that are already doing a good job of it.

The idea is insulting to me. The idea that all it takes to be a good corporal is a three-week course is ridiculous.
