Dead Marines used to reduce wrecks
This may be the closest we can come, ethically, to personalizing and driving home the possible consequences [“Images show ‘that was somebody’s fellow Marine,’” April 27]. I sure hope Marines and others take notice, learn from their late comrades-in-arms and do the right thing.

Innocent Marine freed after 9 years in prison
I do hope the Corps can address his issues as to allowing him to stay past service limitations and retire, or hopefully promote him to staff sergeant, maybe even give him past arrears.

Congress to debate school access for recruiters
Forget federal funding, the recruiters are showing some kids a place to go after high school. They are taking, what now, one-person-a month quotas? Most students out of high school are adults with a mind of their own and the free will to choose for themselves. I came in before 9/11, and we had like seven to 10 students out of 300 go into the service right out of high school. If you keep the military out, you need to keep colleges out too.

Bottom line: Your kid goes to public school. Military service is a public service as well. If you want your child to be sheltered, then home/private school them.

U.S. judge hears challenge to Iraq war
Congress approved the use of U.S. armed forces against Iraq. That differs from a declaration of war exactly how?

Swine flu overreaction
Do we ever learn as a public? Didn’t we go through this same garbage over Woodpecker Flu? How many people in the U.S. died from the birds? I believe it was somewhere around zero. I’m purposely calling it ‘pig flu’ and being ridiculous because this whole flu hysteria is ridiculous. Why panic about a flu virus that has killed zero people in the U.S. when roughly 30,000 people die from the regular influenza virus in the U.S. every year?

I do not necessarily believe the public is the one overreacting. It is the media and government organizations asserting control.
